Waxing
Waxing is the most effective method of removing unwanted hair in large or small areas. Hair can be removed with a minimum amount of discomfort. Any hair-bearing area can be waxed including the mustache, chin, eyebrows, legs and bikini line. Eventually after a number of treatments waxing can produce finer and sparser hairs.
What are the types of Waxing?
Facial
The unwanted hair often appears on the upper lip (men: mustache), chin
(men: beard), sides of the face (men: sideburns) and brows. Waxing is
not recommended for full-beards featured by men, usually used for those
"random" hairs we don't want. A warm wax is carefully applied to the
areas and removed in a relatively painless manner that doesn't require
plucking or shaving. This is usually effective for several weeks.
Under-arms
Waxing keeps the armpits smooth and hairless (i.e. odorless) for
a longer time as opposed to shaving. However, you need to have at bit
of hair growth in order to wax as short hairs don't give the wax
anything to grab onto. Waxing lasts for two to three weeks, but you
have to allow growth again before wax again.
Fore-arms
For men or women with dark or excessively thick hair on forearms, this
is an effective way to avoid embarassment. If you have light skin and
dark hair, bleaching is an option, but must be repeated at frequent
intervals. It is NEVER recommended to shave these areas as it will
cause unsightly ingrowns and thicker, darker regrowth. Depilatory
lotion painlessly dissolves hair and leaves arms smooth for few days,
but again re-treatment must be quite frequent. If you want your
arms to stay fuzz-free for longer -- like four weeks -- you'll need to
wax. Home wax kits and depilatory lotions also have more risks of
allergies, "burns" and can even change the texture of skin.
Back / Chest
Some men (and their women) prefer a hairless back and/or chest. As an
alternative to shaving or plucking, waxing can be used to thin or remove
body hair from the torso as well as just arms/legs/face. The hair
removal is not permanent like elecrolysis (nor anywhere near as paiful
and expensive), but tends to last longer than shaving, is quicker and
less uncomfortable than plucking and you don't have to worry about razor
burn.
Full Leg
For the sexy effect of a shaved leg that lasts longer a full-leg wax is
hair removal from ankles all the way to tops of thighs. Afficionados of
certain sports, like swimming, also prefer to use the full leg wax.
1/2 Leg
More common than the full-leg, 1/2 leg waxing is the removal of hair
from ankles to just over the knees--those areas with thicker darker hair
that need epilation more frequently is you're just shaving. Some men
1/2 leg wax because they feel it makes them more sexy, or more commonly
to reduce friction in sports such as swimming, biking, competitive
running... And ladies, chances are if you don't wax you shave once a
week or more frequently in this area -- wouldn't you love a change to
shave your legs LESS frequently?
Bikini
Most of us have experienced the embarassment of a messy bikini-line in
intimate situations or when swimming/sunbathing/etc. There are
depilitory creames such as Nair and Veet, but in these sensitive areas a
cumulative chance of "burning" from the chemical you're poisoning your
hair follicles increases. With minimal discomfort this unsanitary,
unattractive hair can be removed for longer periods. Many women and men
can have this procedure dones as little as twice a year with positive
effect.
Brazilian
For those who want all that unsanitary hair removed, the
Brazilian wax is the Bikini wax done one better.
